Today: Supreme Court, Corporal Punishment and Prof Kindiki

Daily Nation Page 5: Supreme Court First Sitting Today
A good story worth appearing in the any of the front pages of the leading daily in the country. It tells readers on the Supreme Court, the newest court born by the new constitution. The court is the final decision maker on pertinent issues, top among them those touching on the constitution. It can also deliberate on difficult cases forwarded it by the Court of Appeal. Its powers are anchored on article 163.
It’s a fine story but could easily miss the attention of fast skimmers.

The Standard Page 23: Pupil in Coma after Teacher’s Punishment
A Standard 3 kid canned to Kenyatta Hospital. Very important story capturing on the lawlessness of teachers who choose to ignore the rules and take their canes to pupils’ bodies. It’s impunity of the highest order but the story is hidden somewhere far away from readers’ interest. By the time they are in page 23, if they ever reach there, they would have been probably demotivated by all those bad stories in front of it and their psyche would have definitely died.

The Star Page 9: Ruto Lawyer Eyes Tharaka Nithi Senate
Fairly, a good story of another individual by the political bug, now loosened and freely biting all and sundry. The story gains attention especially as it hems in Eldoret North Mp, William Ruto. His lawyer, Prof Kithure Kindiki, at the ICC is going for the senate seat–in the yet to be formed august House. The development means a lot to politics’ subscribers. Would this lawyer run under the blessings of his client or will he go for a different party and risk losing his job at The Hague?
